This is a comprehensive 6 module online course for students wishing to work professionally as a stress management coach. It also explores the skills required to run a successful Stress Management practice, from setting up business to working with clients.

The course involves approximately 96 hours of study, which equates to approx 8 hours per week over the 12 weeks of the course.

Course Outline

Week 1 – 2: Stress and the Mind-Body Connection. Definitions of stress; courses and symptoms of stress; positive and negative effects of stress; acute and chronic stress; achieving peak performance.

Week 3 – 4: Coaching and Stress Management. Defining coaching; planning client sessions – beginning, middle, and ending; active listening skills; questioning and focusing skills; goal-setting; building client rapport; learning styles; motivating clients; performance management; relaxation techniques – breathing techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness, biofeedback.

Week 5 – 6: Cognitive-Behavioural Interventions. Principles of CBT; ABC model; examining unhelpful thinking patterns; overcoming blocks to change; CBT and individual coping styles. identifying and addressing interim and core beliefs; behavioural techniques; cognitive/imagery techniques; cognitive behavioural approach to shame, guilt and anger; cognitive behavioural approach to depression; addressing anxiety; behavioural approach to self esteem.

Week 7 – 8: Assertiveness Training. The differences between assertive, passive and aggressive relating styles; verbal and non-verbal communication; self-responsibility language; how to say no; giving and receiving criticism positively.

Week 9 – 10: Emotional Intelligence and Stress Management. Emotional intelligence skills; strengthening relationships; raising self-awareness; understanding and managing resistance; emotional intelligence and leadership; visualisation, imagery and affirmations; using guided imagery.

Week 11 – 12: Lifestyle and Workplace Organisation. Time management; diet and stress management; managing environmental stressors; workplace interventions to manage stress. Runnin
